A day running a small shop

For anyone running a corner shop, newsagent or café counter: open up, keep the lunch rush clear, don't lose the order that came by voice note, and close with the till.

Brain dumpToday
Monday, I open at 8.
Sue sent a voice note: two packs of water, a box of tea bags and washing-up liquid, she's picking up at 5.
Bread delivery at 10, check the crates in.
Bring the short-dated stock to the front of the shelves, half an hour.
Send last week's receipts to the accountant.
Clean the front window.
Price up the new magazines.
Sort out the stockroom if there's time.

Paste it into Dump in Brizemi, or say it in your own words. Change the times and things to fit you.

How to use it

  1. 1

Copy the dump, or rewrite it with your own things.

  2. 2

Open Dump in Brizemi and paste; the things become cards. Sort them into Must, Could and Park.

  3. 3

Brizemi builds the day around your calendar, with breathing room in between. When the day slips, tap Rescue.

Tips for this day

  • In Settings → Shop mode, enter your opening and closing times, closed days and rush hours. On open days Brizemi plans within your shop hours and keeps the rush clear.
  • The same place has Ready routines: Open up, Count the till and Weekly order. Each is added as a repeat and comes into the plan on its own day; Repeats are Pro.
  • Say an order that came by voice note into Dump in your own words, then add the items inside the card as Steps; tick them off as you pack.
  • If customers keep you busy, tap Rescue: Sue's pickup and the till count stay put, and the window gets parked.

Why this day is built this way

A shop day has plenty of jobs, but the real job is the customers; the plan fits between them, not around the shop. That's why this day is made of short cards and leaves the lunch rush completely clear. Sue's order is put aside right after opening, because orders that arrive by voice note are the easiest thing to lose track of during the day.

The bread delivery and Sue's pickup have fixed times, and the plan takes its shape from them. Short-dated stock and receipts are Must things, in the quiet morning hours; the window is a Could thing and waits for the afternoon. Counting the till sits half an hour before closing, in the same place every day. The magazines and the stockroom didn't fit today; they wait in Parked for a quieter day.

If you have this day often

If this is a day you have often: when it goes well, tap "Save this day as a template" in Close the day, and next time it sets up in one tap (Day templates, Pro).

How to make a realistic daily plan that survives the day

Questions people ask

What happens on days the shop is closed?

Shop mode doesn't apply on closed days; Brizemi plans that day around your own day hours.

Can my staff or business partner see the same plan?

Not for now. Brizemi has no account and everything stays on your phone, so the plan is for one person.

When the day slips, rescue it in one tap

Brizemi turns what's on your mind into a realistic day and rebuilds the rest when the day falls apart. Rescue is always free.
