Work

A deep work day

For anyone who needs long stretches on one thing: the hard work goes in the morning, email shrinks to two short rounds, the one call sits at midday.

Brain dumpToday
Deep work today, I don't want to get pulled in every direction.
Finish the design for the new module this morning, two hours.
Write the code for it in the afternoon, an hour and a half.
Team call at 1pm, half an hour.
Read the report and leave comments, half an hour.
Send the invoice.
Check email twice, around noon and late afternoon.
Update the docs if there's time.

Paste it into Dump in Brizemi, or say it in your own words. Change the times and things to fit you.

  • Fixed time
  • Must
  • Could

A sample day. Brizemi builds yours around your own calendar, routines and the time of day.

How to use it

  1. 1

Copy the dump, or rewrite it with your own things.

  2. 2

Open Dump in Brizemi and paste; the things become cards. Sort them into Must, Could and Park.

  3. 3

Brizemi builds the day around your calendar, with breathing room in between. When the day slips, tap Rescue.

Tips for this day

  • Mark the design and the code as Tiring; Brizemi puts tiring work in the hours when your energy is highest.
  • In a long block, turn on Focus and pick 50-minute rounds with 10-minute breaks; rounds are free in the app. Seeing them on the lock screen and the watch is Pro.
  • Break the two-hour design into Steps: "sketch the flow, list the screens, write down open questions". The card stays big, but you know where to start.
  • If the morning runs long, tap Rescue: with Keep the essentials, the call and the Must things stay, and the second email round can get parked.

Why this day is built this way

When a deep work day falls apart, it's usually not the work itself but what cuts into it: an email, a question, a small task. This day puts the hardest task in the first two hours of the morning and puts nothing else there. Small tasks gather after the design, and email shrinks to two short rounds.

The midday call stays fixed and splits the two long blocks naturally. Each long block is followed by half an hour of breathing room; thinking work almost always takes longer than planned, and that gap is the first thing to fill. Things that can wait, like the docs, stay in Parked if they don't fit.

If you have this day often

If this is a day you have often: when it goes well, tap "Save this day as a template" in Close the day, and next time it sets up in one tap (Day templates, Pro).

Questions people ask

How many hours of deep work fit in a day?

For most people, three or four hours is a good day. This example has three and a half; the rest goes to the call, email and breaks.

Should I turn email off completely?

There's no need. Checking it at set times pulls you away less than keeping it open all day. This day sets aside two short rounds: around noon and late afternoon.

When the day slips, rescue it in one tap

Brizemi turns what's on your mind into a realistic day and rebuilds the rest when the day falls apart. Rescue is always free.
